After 7 years on the Board of Dancenorth, the last 3.5 as Chair, Jan Pool has advised that she will be stepping down as Chair and leaving the Board in August.

“With the growth of the Company and the extraordinary opportunities Dancenorth now has to tour internationally, it is time to pass the baton on.” said Jan. Professor Judith Mclean has been appointed as incoming Chair effective immediately, with Jacinta Wight appointed as Deputy Chair/Company Secretary.

“Since joining us earlier this year, Professor Judith Mclean has brought an extensive wealth of knowledge of the arts and cultural sector to the Board. It is suitable to have her lead us as the Chair through this exciting phase.” said Jan.

When discussing her time at Dancenorth, Jan has said that she is very proud of the achievements of the Company and the success it has recently achieved as a regionally based contemporary dance company. Jan credits much of Dancenorth’s success to the wonderful artistic team of Kyle Page and Amber Haines; their vibrancy and love for their art form has been an integral part of attracting our wonderful full-time ensemble. She wishes the Company all the success in its next adventures.

Professor Judith McLean holds a joint appointment as both Chair of Arts Education at the Queensland University of Technology, Creative Industries Faculty and the Queensland Performing Arts Centre where she works as the Scholar in residence.

Judith has thanked Jan for her contribution to the Company’s success under her stewardship. Judith particularly acknowledged Jan’s leadership and her many achievements including contracting company dancers for twelve months of the year – virtually unheard of in regional communities – and building a program of international touring.
